Wow, I have to say Raold & Eva's story was truly a wonderful tale. This is book two in the series and it was just a good as the first one. This is the story of Konal 's brother, Roald. He is now Jarl. Konal was the heroe from book 1.Eventhough, this story was short in length it did not feel like it was short. It flowed exceptionally well. There was never a lull in the story so kudos to this author. I have read some of her Highlander stories, but the Viking stories draw me in so much more so, than the others.The description from the author is sufficient, no need to go into more. I would not want to reveal any spoilers. The only thing that was not to my liking was the model on the cover. Eventhough, he had dark hair his facial features were not pleasant. His body, yes....his face no.I look forward to the next book in this series and hopefully it comes out sooner rather than later.

I read book 1 and then 3, not realizing I skipped 2 until I was a way into book 3 and decided to keep going. In book 1 and 3 I didn't care for the h until near then end, but not in this one. I loved the h and H from the start. I loved her spunk, kindness and caring heart.There is lovemaking, mildly descriptive, but with passion, because I did feel a connection with both of our main character's.There is some violence, who have to deal with a religion that is with other gods, but took awhile to get use to. The author doesn't tell us if this was the Vikings and Sami belief, or fiction.There isn't a cliffhanger, but it does end abruptly. I would have liked an epilogue too.I am not going into the premise of the story as many have explained it. It is unique, and my favorite of the 2 others I've read of the series. (ljb)

I love medieval romances, and this one fit the bill! I also like Viking lore and this had a bit as well. I would have liked to read a bit more about the female MC’s brother and mother, but that’s just me. I like a lot of back story. This is the second book in the series and I will probably go back and read the first and then the rest. I highly recommend it!

What a wonderful story of 2 different people with different beliefs. I love vikings so the story of Roald and Eva didn't disappoint me at all. Read it right through, it kept my interest. Very heartwarming. As always Violetta's books make you feel like you are right there with the characters!!

I couldn't wait for this 2nd book in the Viking Fury series. I didn't think I would like Roald. But shhhh, so far my favorite. Violetta Rand is the Goddess of Viking stories. She brings you into their world. You see, smell and feel like you are right there with Roald and Eva. Don't miss out on this AMAZING story. I very highly recommend this book !!!!!!!

The hate,envy and love of different regions of a vikings land. The well researched story of what ignorance and fear can become wben passed from father to his heirs. Well written and an enjoyable read.

I liked the strong hero and heroine in this love story in which both confront obstacles within and without themselves. I do wish the story would have been longer as I enjoyed it. I look forward to more from this author.

This was a good sequel. It began right at the point where the first left off. Though it would have been nice to know what the "mystery illness" was. A bit suspicious and reaching. But all in all, a good story.

Okay, I don't talk about the story; I don't give spoilers because I want a reader to understand that this book, the 2nd in the series is full of fun and can get very dark, in my opinion. I highly recommend reading the 1st book, The Reapers, before this one. You definitely need the background. This story has the goods if you are looking for that deep part of your brain to get so into the story that you forget where you are! I found myself laughing at some of their situations, tearing and sniffling slightly to the point that a fellow bus passenger asked me if I was okay. They honestly thought I was reading something from a family member or friend that was very sad. Well, it was sad in some points and the tears needed to be shed. The way Ms. Winters breathes life into Nivi, Kain and my personal favorite, Caspian; and she does breathe life to all of her characters. They are so far removed from "cookie-cutter" reapers and hunters that we have become accustomed to, that you feel like you are on a different plain; in a different existence. You are being shown the shadow world on the sly. The one thing that is always in Ms. Winters books: HOPE. I believe this why I enjoy her stories. They are not all necessarily Happily Ever After in my opinion (even if they are). But they give that sense that not everything will be blazing wonderful at the end--but it will be hopeful and a new beginning is always there.

Nivian, Kain, Caspian and Silas all have a powerful part in this second book. The powers between light and dark, life and death are mesmerizing as the tail is told of a love that crosses thousands of years and threatens to destroy the realms of time. Yeva is the light and Silas the dark. He imprisoned her for millennium to save all, and now that she is free, destruction will be imminentNivian and Kain are powerful individuals who were both hunters and reapers, although we aren't sure how that happened. He loves her, but she has no reference in her history to tell her how that should feel. When an alliance is formed with the hunters, Nivian and Kain become closer. But some things are not meant to be.Yeva captured Silas and the world is in jeopardy. It's an interesting story, one I wasn't sure I would like. But, it surprised me. It's certainly worth reading.Read on my friends.

As I sit down to write this review, I find myself at a loss for words. Quite frankly Miss Winters has taken me on a roller coaster of emotions that has left me at a complete loss and a bit slackjaw. AND THAT WAS JUST THE LAST FEW CHAPTERS!!!OMG, this whole series is AMAZING. Told from multiple POVs, the reader gets everyone's story, but not in a confusing or geez get on with it kind of way. From Silas & Yeva we see how they came to be and also their prior love story. We also see Kain & Nivi try to navigate a very complicated and confusing relationship. All of their stories are intermingled and come to an explosive, OMG!!! emding you won't see coming.I give The Exodus 5 stars because it's a fast-paced, action-packed, romance, got to save the world from ending, fantastic read. The multi-dimensional characters leap from the pages and into your heart. Even the wicked ones!

So, I whipped through this book in one day. I can't go into the best parts without spoilers, but with how this book ended...I can't wait for book 3!

I cannot fully express just how amazing this book is! Winter's words lure you in! You feel connected with the characters. You fall in love with some of them. 😉 I never want this series to end!

The sequel to The Reaper was an amazing novel! The story flowed so nicely and there was never a dull moment. That cliffhanger though!! I need the next book, and I want it now!

The Exodus by Ali Winters is the sequel that I have been waiting for since I read the first book, The Reapers. Nivian, Kain, Caspian, and Silas are all back in this book. There is romance, action, drama, suspense, and a few surprise returns.This book picked up where the first one left off (no spoilers from me, so you’re going to have read that one first). There are so many twists and turns in the second book that will leave you wanting more. Ali Winters knows how to create characters that you will love and hate. You will know who I am talking about when you read the story.Nivi is a strong female character that knows how to handle herself. She is the one you want on your side in case of a fight. She is battling to save the world from impending disaster. The storyline is on point. The dialogues are believable. The characters are created so perfectly that even the most jaded person will like them. Ali Winters is a phenomenal writer. Everyone should read her stories.I can honestly say that The Exodus saved me tonight. I strongly encourage everyone to read it. I give it 5/5 Platypires. I wish I could give it about 20 Platypires.

My biggest complaint is that this book is almost completely lifted, word-for-word, from the more complete companion "NEW ZEALAND" guide by Lonely Planet. Here and there, there are a few extra items, but don't waste your money on this book if you have, or plan to buy, the larger book that also contains the North Island. The only reason to buy this book is if you are ONLY touring the South Island. I will try to get my money back from Amazon for this book, as I bought both, thinking I'd get a lot more detail on the South Island here. I think they should disclose the duplication in the description, so you don't buy both books as I did. The other issue with both books is that the large fold-out map is inferior to most of the other guide books. It has little detail of smaller roads, and many of the roads it does have are not labeled with route numbers or names. Prepare to buy a separate good quality map if you buy either of these books. Once you get into the details provided, its a pretty good guide. One other thing: there's a strong bent towards backpackers. If you're a senior citizen using hotels and motels, you may get more of what you need from other guides.

Very good book and very informative. I've always wondered about the story and now I know the facts. I would recommend this to anyone thinking of going into the wild.

Erin Hunter is a collective artist. The Warriors series is one of the best series in the history of Children's Literature. This series is for emergent readers of 8 and up. If you are a parent and worry about the content you're children are reading: I applaud you! A lot of books that seem to be written for children are quite graphic. The graphic nature of the Warriors books does not exceed cat fights and cats that might breed with different fathers to their kits. This is actually true to nature and does not go into details of a sexual nature, yet stays in the context of reproduction. the violence is not too graphic for children and I read these books to my young, Christian niece and nephews. The cats have different clans and resemble Native American culture quite closely, which, being half Native myself, I was delighted to discover. This is an incredible series that even adults can enjoy along with their kids or alone.

This book gave a great insight of the path Chris McCandless's troubled life took.I watched the movie "Into The Wild" a few years back and have always been curious and saddened to think about Chris's journey. This book seemed to clear the story a bit. Sometimes I had a lump in my throat thinking that this is not a "character" in a made up story but a real life that seemed to yearn for a peace that only existed in his heart. Jon Krakauer does a great job of giving us a key hole view of "Alex's" life. The good times even when he had nothing. I personally feel like unfortunately Chris was a troubled individual weather it was mental imbalance or emotional disconnect and after this book I feel so sad for his torment. The movie left me disliking his parents, but this book turned that emotion completely around. And I loved the Epilogue. Thank you Jon Krakauer for that. If the movie intrigued you most definitely read the book.

I can't believe I'm sitting here writing a review on a book about cats, but after finishing this six-part series, I felt compelled to share my thoughts, as I couldn't get enough.Erin Hunter has managed to create a compelling world with richly-detailed characters and fleshed out plots that fill every emotion- happiness, sadness, loyalty, diversity, mourning, grief, revenge, and friendship.Despite being children's fiction, the themes and stories have many adult elements for reader's of all ages (I'm a thirty year old guy who unabashedly loves his pets) with a story on the level of Watership Down. You become passionate about the characters and their tribulations, and are heartbroken by the not infrequent deaths from warring clans or nature.I bought this book as light bedtime reading, and quickly purchased the remaining five. I honestly couldn't put it down and if you're looking at this, I'm confident you won't be able to either.Now that it's over, I'm so happy that I've got about 20 other books in the series to read.

I actually didn't know what I was getting when I bought this series. My son told me about it, so I decided to try it. Especially since I am an avid reader! I honestly couldn't stop turning pages! And found myself reading whenever I had a second to spare...and sometimes when I didn't! It's an interesting, fun book, in my opinion. If you love cats, it's a plus. Try the first one, you may find yourself hooked, like I was.

I have to get into an un-biased mindset, or at least try too. I have been reading these books over and over again since middle school so it’s rather obvious that I love and really enjoy this series.I really love the new covers, so much so that I want to buy the books I already have just to get those new covers. However, I also enjoy the classic covers so I’ll be including both.I love having the lists of different cats and the maps, the only thing I have a small problem with is the names being overly repeated. I would say something more about that and the repeating what’s going on but this is pretty much a children’s book.Well, children through early teens but I will also say that this books is for adults. I’m 24 and still really enjoy these books.Even remembering what was going to happen, the authors wrote this in a way to evoke emotion and to create connections quickly. I didn’t want to set this down and when I finished it, I went right on to the next book.For what this story is, I feel like everything that happens is realistic in that world and it’s rather interesting to see the world from a cat’s point of view.I would highly recommend to young and older audiences.

Normally, I like to stick to straight up fiction genres, and I always had this idea that nonfiction also meant non-interesting. However, Jon Krakauer's compelling novel "Into the Wild" quickly reversed that misconception. This is one of the easiest stories, in any genre that I've read, to get involved in, and I never once found myself bored with the book."Into the Wild" is the story of Christopher McCandless and his unique journey into the depths of the Alaskan wilderness. Krakauer makes you really empathize with the troubled young protagonist, and does an excellent job balancing the narrative with his own personal anecdotes. It is abundantly clear that the author is well-versed in both the story and the whole hiking/outdoors culture, and his knowledge helps add to the book. The writing is very direct, but still managed to capture my emotions and keep me engrossed in the story. The story itself would be incredible without all these other elements, but I really felt like Krakauer's talents elevated the book from just an interesting account to a fantastic piece of literature.Even though the book was suggested to me because of my love of hiking, I found that the human element of "Into the Wild" was what kept me reading and enjoying it. Overall, you'd be hard pressed to find a better piece of nonfiction out there.Highly recommended

Julia Child. What more can you say???My late husband and I used to watch her show on repeats Saturday afternoons. She was the funniest thing on TV.I bought this set as a "pre-retirement gift" to myself. I've always wanted to be a better cook, and this is one of my goals for my retirement: to become a better and more adventurous cook.Bon Appetite!

It is the classic. And you can go to YouTube and watch her prepare many of the recipes, or at least the master recipes, in the book. I originally purchased this as a e-book. Huge mistake. You often need to refer to other parts of the book, and the e-book navigation is a total disaster in this respect.

This two volume-set is just perfect, and would make a great gift (although it was a gift to myself ;~) ).I actually had not particularly wanted these cookbooks, and then I read My Life in France, which is Julia's memoir (and, really, a love story - her love for her husband Paul, his love for her, their love of France, their love of food, her love of cooking, her love of teaching..etc., etc.).As Julie explains in her memoir, there are some real differences between volumes 1 and 2. Volume one is all about how to create basic (and not-so-basic) French cooking. It is very precise, and particular. These are *not* slapdash "30 minutes or less" recipes. These are methodic, and detailed. There's a reason that "Mastering" is in the title.They are also classic recipes that, once you master a few, will become your staples.In fact, the the second reason that I ordered these is because one of my boyfriend's specialties is Julia's chocolate mousse (he made it for me on our second date!), and his family always has the beef bourguignon for their Christmas Eve dinner (he made a vegetarian version just for me!)The second volume includes a great deal on baking that the first volume doesn't (it's also was compiled after one of the three collaborators on the first volume left - Julia explains all about it in her memoir).These are NOT cookbooks for the first-time cook. They are for home cooks who want to take the time and effort to replicate true French cooking, or for cookbookphiles who enjoy reading cookbooks. :~) The cookbook collection of someone in either category is not complete without this set. :~)

Bon Appetit! I've been a big fan of Julia Child for years, and I've wanted her cookbook since 2008. If you're hosting a dinner party, get this cookbook and you'll be solid. You'll be loved by all your dinner guests, because the recipes in this book produce delicious, mouthwatering meals. Everything is written out in detail, from the measurements to the step-by-step instructions. I think that if you have a willingness and passion to learn, you'll be fine. You don't need to necessarily be a young, aspiring Mario Batali or Julia Child to master this cookbook. Personally speaking, the instructions are well-written so that anyone can follow them. For example, I tried the classic boeuf bourguignon and it was a raving success and I'm definitely not a professional. For those who want to go on a French culinary adventure, I highly recommend grabbing a copy of Mastering the Art.

We watched the movie "Julie and Julia" about a young woman who idolized Julia Child. We were inspired by Meryl Streep's portrayal of Julia in the 1950s in France. She studied French cooking for many years while there and with the help of two French friends she produced this wonderful recipe and technique book for Americans. This is a great book if you want to take your cooking to the next level. Well-written, well-explained. All you need to prepare wonderful French Style cuisine.

This book is essentially my Cooking Bible. As a chef, I can honestly say if you follow the recipes, you'll find there are several opportunities to add your own touch. It's incredibly easy to read and follow, and I would think so even if I weren't a professional chef. This book will teach you how to do almost anything you want to do. I plan on keeping this book to pass down to my children and hopefully theirs after.

Bought this as a Christmas gift for my mom, she immediately opened the book and started tagging recipes she would do first. She has already made several recipes from the book and they have all been delicious. Anyone who is interested in some delicious recipes I would highly recommend this cookbook. Plus if you can get them to make some stuff for you its a win win for everyone.

The contents are great. The binding is ... well, this is supposed to be a hardcover book and something you'd want to keep a long time. I can't really describe this cheap binding as hardcover. It's a blend of soft and hardcover. The spine is nothing but layers of thick paper, and not heavy-duty paper at that. The cardboard is the thinnest that might qualify as hardcover. The first volume is bound improperly so that there are wrinkles and gaps between the cover paper and the front cover cardboard. I'm sending it back, but even if the binding wasn't done wrong the book will have to be handled delicately, and that definitely does not meet expectations for a hardcover cook book. The version I received is a 2-volume set in a cardboard set box. There are more than one two volume sets on Amazon so it may be hard to find the best product. The title of this inferior item is "Mastering the Art of French Cooking (2 Volume Set)" The outer box is white with red fleur-de-lis, and matches volume 1. Volume 2 in this set is white with teal fleur-de-lis. There is another set named (2 Book series) which I'm going to try instead.

What can I say...it's a classic. I love to cook, I love to collect cookbooks, I had to have this. This book is extremely long and many of the recipes are complicated with lengthy prep and cook times. Definitely not for the everyday get it on the table cook.

I was a little worried about ordering this book online because of stories I've heard of ordering books online but when you receive them their usually an older version or not the same as the pictures (always read the details and description). This book is the exact book you see on the picture. It is new, however it don't come sealed in a plastic wrap. My only problem with this product is the packaging. It was just put in a cardboard box with no plastic or any kind of seal to protect it from rain or water. Thankfully when my book was delivered it was a bright sunny day because if it was raining it would have gotten damaged. The book itself is great, exactly what I needed for my CNA class, and new.
