This book is an excellent overview of most areas of digital photography. It is sort of like an encyclopedia. The author provides a clear description of many different concepts, techniques and skills (aperture, trimming and resizing, etc) and then shows examples of them. It does not go in-depth on any one topic but instead provides an overview of many topics and may not be as useful to someone with advanced skills. However, I found it very helpful, especially to learn specific new skills and about different areas of photography.

This is the best textbook I have ever bought.It has a great combination of graphics and text. Most textbooks charge an arm and a leg for cheap quality paper and poor binding.This book has quality paper, similar in texture and feel to the glossy photo prints you get on developed photos. You will question all other textbooks as this sets the standard.I cannot say how effective the content is unfortunately because my class just started.Cheers!

I saw this book at Costco and held off on buying it because I had an Amazon gift card. It was a dollar or two cheaper than the Costco version and I spent enough on Amazon to get free shipping so it was a good deal. This book is very easy to read and I love the way the pages are laid out. It was better than I expected because it has activities for you to do to enhance your photography skills. I am excited to get out there are start taking pictures again.

This is a good book for learning digital photography using a DSLR. It does not matter which camera you have it will take you through the basics of photography and more specifically using a DSLR. This is without the clutter of the information that you will find the camera manufacturer reference manual.I would highly recommend this book.

Excellent book for demonstrating photography tools, strategies, and techniques, along with great pointers on better mastering more artistic and subjective aspects of photography, like composition, lighting, and color. Any time I find myself asking, "How'd they do that???" I get this book out and I can usually find the answer. It's invaluable to a serious enthusiast, and great for a pro too. I would say this book is essential to the library of any modern digital photographer!

Tom Ang's book, Digital Photography Essentials is an excellent reference book for technical details and various shooting situations. I've suggested this book to many photographers at various skill levels. I especially like the grid sections where he presents various scenarios and how to shoot them. This book will help the new photographer as well as clarify lots of information for the intermediate photographer. Tom's writing style is clear and direct.

I was pleased with the information and layout of this book. I was looking for a good book to help me get the best use of my digital cameras. As a police officer I consider this book a must read because it helps you understand what your body goes through during high stress encounters. I have found myself wondering why my body shakes in the past during the presence of danger, and this book helped me understand as well as taught me how to calm myself down. It has helped me keep my head in the game and stay focused in situations where any reasonable person would be scared. Lt. Col. Dave Grossman does a fantastic job of explaining why your body reacts the way it does.

This audio book is read by Grossman himself, its almost as good as attending one of his fantastic seminars.The chapters are fairly short so it lends itself well to listening to in the car and not losing track of the content.And, of course, the content is PHENOMENAL! If you have ever read anything of Grossman's you know hat to expect, high level, intensive content with numerous references to source material (none of that "here's a fact - take my word for it.)If you are a Law Enforcement Officer , a soldier, a Sheepdog, or any other form of Warrior, this should be required reading, but listening is even better!

This is a must read if you are in any profession that involves danger or a citizen that wants to be part of the solution and not the problem. The thing I thought was amazing in this book is the description of the psychological and physiological responses to a violent and fearful encounter. If you read all about this you will see that many of the police involved shootings were because of nature and not a war on the minorities in this country. It also allows you to see that the police need way better training to be able to counter these byproducts of their dangerous profession.I am torn on the authors theory that violent movies and headlines are causing the youth to go and shoot up schools. I think that that kind of stuff is probably not healthy but something else must be going on to make a person commit this type of horror.The chapters on PTSD and veterans coming home are also very timely. It will allow the regular Joe like me to better understand some of the issues our veterans and police are dealing with.

Dave Grossman is probably the best authority on PTSD. You can find his lectures on youtube if you're on the fence. He has a unique perspective, as he speaks from first hand experience with all of these matters, instead of purely from academic theory. Refreshing for anyone who is a bit tired of academia. Your professors will either love it, or hate it, depending on their bias and background. So use wisely in research papers.That being said, I don't agree with David Grossman on 100% of the content or details of his book, but he is the most accurate I've seen so far. I'd give him a 90-95%, which is astounding.

This was a very difficult book to read because of what I went through in the Marines. It was as if I was going to battle reading the book, but what I learned was worth it. At the end I felt like I lost a really good mentor in Grossman though difficult, but necessary. I would rather be the sheep dog like it says in the book and know that there are bad people out other. To live in denial of that would make me a sheep I refuse to close my eyes.

"On Combat" and "On Killing" by Lt. Col. David Grossman should be mandatory reading before anyone picks up a gun for self defense. I've taught the permit to carry certification course in Minnesota for over 10 years. I know that most people taking this course think they know what they are getting into. They don't. They'll spend a fortune on guns and holsters but won't spend a nickel on the preparation of their mind and body. I literally pray that they will never need to defend themselves. Lt. Col. Grossman presents his years of research as well as that of other experts in the field of combat in an easy to read and digest format. Along with his co author, David Christiansen, he shows that without proper training of the mind as well as the body, we are naturally opposed to taking a human life no matter what the justification. All the shooting competition in the world won't help unless your mind and body are prepared.As he states, "You are the weapon. The gun is a tool". I cannot express how very important "On Combat" is to the "warrior" in all of us who desires to defend our loved ones as well as ourselves. Please read this book.

"On Combat" by Colonel Dave Grossman is a MUST READ, and better yet "MUST HEAR" book by anyone who has, or may encounter a lethal or deadly force situation. It is ALSO critical for anyone who needs to understand what goes on in the individual during the stresses of physical confrontations. If you're dedicated to protecting your family and loved ones; if you really want to know the impact of the violent video games on your kids, and if you truly want to know the physical and emotional stress of combat and how to deal with it and help others to deal with it, than you CANNOT afford to delay in reading or better yet, listeing to this unabridged audiobook. It is a lifechanger. We need "sheepdogs!" Colonel Grossman has spent his life training and speaking to soldiers, police officers and civilians who have had extraodinary experiences. He himself has had these experiences. Obviously, none of us know, until WE GO THROUGH IT ourselves how we will respond. But you can be BETTER prepared and MUST BE PREPARED for if or when it does occure. This book goes absolutely a long way in a turmultuous world in doing just that! You won't regret a single moment in buying it!

This is the perfect Bible for kids aged 3 to 6. My oldest kids are 18 and 17 and my younger ones are 3 and 5. We read this Bible to our oldest two, and we are reading it now to my youngest two. It delivers truth with in a simple and understandable way, yet it is captivating and memorable to little minds. Also, it is beautifully written. If you are looking for a story Bible, pick this one. You will not be disappointed!

As an SDA Christian, I like for religious books to be true to the Bible. I sometimes get disappointed with these baby Bible books because they emphasize man's accomplishments so much instead of God's providence and power. Anyways, I am a very picky person when it comes to religious material for my children, and I could not find one thing wrong with this book. I feel like I have finally found my baby shower gift if I want to give a "Bible."On another note, my baby is almost 26 months old and is learning to read already. So many baby books have too many lines on each page with small print because they are meant for the adult to only read. This one only has 4 lines of text for every open 2-page spread, and each line might have 5 words maximum. The text is large print. The words are simple. My baby and I underline words with our finger as we read them. Though he is still working on 4-line text, he is making an effort to underline in this book and I know he will be able to do it soon. So it is very appropriate for teaching reading or if you are fostering early reading like I am.As an ethnic minority, I always wish there were more options with drawings that at least look like people from the middle east, instead of all Caucasians like in this book. But I am just happy that I found a baby Bible that was true to scripture with large simple print and few lines.I highly recommend this Bible.PS This is not a board book, so unless your child knows how to treat book pages carefully, you may not want to let them handle this one.

I have very fond memories of reading this book as a child, and recently bought a copy for my young niece. The poems are incredibly well-written and catchy, and I can still remember many of them years later. I really appreciate the introduction to the Bible that this book gave me as a child--it helped me to understand and remember the basics of the most important figures in the Bible.The poems are Biblically accurate and a pleasure to read, even as an adult.

This is my favorite rhyming bible. This was my daughters favorite book to read when she started getting ok at reading on her on. I think the rhymes and the shortened stories really help her proficiency- plus they are fun to read and simple with bright pictures.

I love this book for the poetry, but the older Goffe illustrations are so much better quality artwork than the newer edition's by another illustrator. The new artwork is juvenile and seems rather generic. I use this book to teach religion and reinforce reading, and the kids love the rhymes, but even they prefer the older edition in a big way. I usually give each of the kids a copy of this book at the end of every school year, but I won't be doing that anymore.

We have a lot of different children’s Bibles we’ve tried. This is definitely the favorite. The rhymes are great and help keep attention. I’ve also been impressed with how Biblically accurate and detailed the stories are. Definitely recommend.

A great way to familiarize children with the Bible in a way that they will remember and be able to build a strong Bible knowledge with a reference point from earlier exposure. The poems are simple and stick pretty well to basic truths.

My oldest son loved this book. Reading it to him as a baby always calmed him and he payed close attention. Later he loved me reading it to him everynight. We got so we almost had it memorized. My youngest son was slower learning to like books (he has Down Syndrome). This was one of the first books that he would listen to and not immediately want to close the book. This book has wonderful rhyme and rhythm while staying much truer to the bible than most children's bible books. The only problem is it's rhyme is so rememberable that it messes me up a little on the true wording of bible verses. I always like David saying "You come to me with a spear and a sword, but I come to you in the name of the Lord!". Take that Satan.

The other brands may get you to an average score but this book will definitely get you scoring highly (700+). I took a practice test last week and did very poorly and in just a week of intense review of this book (timing myself rather than just going through the book slowly to understand the concepts) my score has gone up by 100 points! To review for the math section of the GRE, I used this book as well as the Cliffsnotes Math Review for Standardized Tests, and the math review sections of the Princeton Review, Kaplan, and Barron's general GRE review books.If I had to buy review materials again, I would purchase this book over the Cliffnotes book (although both were excellent) because it contains a few more math concepts and provides more challenging problems. In addition, I would purchase one of the general books in order to learn a few tricks or shortcuts for the math section, as this book contains how to do math problems "the long way".This book will give you the most thorough review of math concepts for the GRE. I was able to finish it in a month studying about three hours per day. The problems require you to think critically about the approach you want to take. I would say over half of them would be considered "hard" questions on the GRE.A hint for using this book: the introductory discussion about the topic in the beginning of each section will give you a starting point, but the real meat of the lesson is the explanations of each problem in the back of the chapter. The majority of my study time was spent analyzing the different approaches they showed in the answer key. If you only read the concept summary in the beginning, you are missing most of the lesson!If you are shooting for a score in the 85th percentile or above, I'd recommend this book. If below, I'd stick with Cliffnotes Math Review--this book will just frustrate you.

I bought this book as one of my final purchases for my GRE prep. It had been very highly rated and I needed a more intensive math review after purchasing GRE for Dummies, Cracking the GRE by Princeton and the Barrons 800 High Frequency Word List. The fact that the book separates the question levels of difficult is one of the better aspects of the book. The sheer number of questions to practice with is also very helpful.However, there are still numerous flaws that left me unsatisfied. I found the reviews of many concepts to be lackluster at best, giving questions in the medium or hard sections with no preemptive preparation in the review part of the section. Also, I found numerous questions to be tediously full of problems that need more time to work on than should be necessary for a GRE question. Also, I found the types of questions themselves, while helpful to concept practice, not at all written in the same manner as the GRE questions you can typically find in the PowerPrep or in a Princeton book.The math section on the GRE is all about tricks, traps and simple ways to solve problems. Many solutions offered in the answer sections provide complex if not completely unnecessary solutions - adding extra variables where no variable really need be added, for example. They show complex ways of solving QC problems with a D answer that need only basic logic to prove as a D.Lastly, I feel a math book for the GRE should be teaching you how to do the least amount of math in your 45 minutes and how to immediately spot a trap. This book only minimally mentions traps and tips to find them.

I purchased this book because of the excellent reviews, and after a week of using it, I understood the hype.To provide a bit of a back story, I took the GRE in 2011 using a Kaplan prep book, which I admit I thumbed through only a bit. I was a junior in college and took the GRE without a real motivating factor. I took it because I thought I should. My approach that year was the approach of many: how do I cheat the system? My lack of motivation and seriousness resulted in a less than stellar quant score. Today, two years later, I planned to actually RELEARN math principals. No "mastering" the test, I planned to master math as best I could.As the author suggests, this book has become my math bible over the past month. While I am keeping my expectations realistic (I don't expect to obtain a perfect quat score), I feel MUCH better prepared and confident to answer many of the questions the test will throw at me tomorrow afternoon. I bought this book along with the ETS guide, and the 5lb book of GRE practice problems. I have barely touched the other two (except to review the verbal and writing sections). This book has followed me to work, to the library, to the coffee shop, to my boyfriends... Here are some pros and cons about this book:Pros:- Sections by subject (e.g. geometry, coordinate geometry, exponents and roots, averages)- Each section has a comprehensive subject review written in a "need to know" and concise manner- Each section has formulas (e.g. circumstance, distance of a line, slope) in bold you can easily compile and memorize.- Each practice question's solution is explained in depth, and you will quickly learn that this book teaches you UNIVERSAL approaches to a verity of questions. You see that the GRE is much more about the approaches and skills you use to solve a problem, rather than very specific math knowledge.Cons:- You will need to warm up to the author's explanation of answers. If you haven't done math in awhile, you will likely have to refresh on common principals such as simplify and factoring equations. At first you might feel lost when reading answer explanations, and if you're like me, you may have to read them 5-10 times before you understand the logic. It is not uncommon for the author to leave out 1 or more steps. Don't worry, you will quickly learn the author's logic and this problem improves.Overall, excellent book that I plan to recommend to future GRE-ers!

This book is like that 60-something distant relative on Facebook who thinks he understands the new "social media" and uses it to share sexist and racist memes and articles, and constantly talks about how things "were better in the old days." Literally shocked that this is a book for one of my university courses. Not only is the content shabby with poor citing and crappy examples, but the writing is just painfully disconnected and repetitive. Like other reviewers have mentioned, the author awkwardly attempts to use his own opinions as evidence that his reasonings are founded, and then fumbles in the explanation on why these "facts" are relevant.

Exactly what I needed for reasonable price

This book is, as stated in another review, incredibly unprofessional. If I were to present this book as my written work to one of my English professors, they would laugh me off campus for making a claim founded in Wikipedia and then supporting it with more Wikipedia articles. This is not to mention the grammatical and syntax disasters throughout the book. On page 9, the author defines advocacy according to Wikipedia and then says, "Propaganda is a related word that we hear quite often." Who is 'we'? Then, he grounds that claim in Wikipedia! On the same page, he makes reference to two movies that I have never heard of and cites them without documentation telling me how I can find them to ground his argument. Someone clearly needs an APA style manual!I think that when discussing technology in this book, since it is the 12th edition, they could have cut out 90% of technological media definitions. I feel like he is undermining the reader in telling what these devices are used for.The style of writing in this text is relatively elementary. The author is constantly opening sections of the texts by telling us what the previous section discussed and what we are going to learn in another chapter.The author slaps us in the face on page 17 by writing a paragraph beginning, " College students today are urged to take more core subjects and courses in computer technology." He then ends that same paragraph with, " Students are urged to take more core subjects and courses in computer technology at college." For a published text with several editions and editors, I am greatly disappointed in the redundancy and lack of argumentative support for claims.In chapter 6, the author discuses syntax, adverbs and sentence structure. I feel greatly let down as an English major. You cant discuss half of English sentence structure and then throw in only the parts you feel like, unless you want to confuse someone. But if the person reading the text were smart enough to figure out this chapter, then they feel offended by the repetition throughout the book.

Great Price and condition for college use.

The author is so very opinionated about politics that reading it is difficult. In addition the entire book is mostly on how to be a good listener, what to listen for, etc. Only the last few chapters have any reference to how to persuade people and it's very unremarkable information. Suggested my university drop this book from their line-up.

Every chapter in this book is so long-winded, it was difficult to keep interested. The book is certainly full of useful and important information, but the chapters are so long that it's not easy to figure out what is worth remembering! This author is too long-winded.
