Review

"This fascinating series comes to a close with a heartbreaking bang, as well as a surprise twist that should catch readers off guard. Lisbeth and Cyprian's love story is vivid and believable, and their faith is a testament to a higher love all Christian couples can aspire to.” (Romantic Times Top Pick on Valley of Decision (4.5 stars))"Grand in scope and vivid in detail, Lynne Gentry’s gripping conclusion to The Carthage Chronicles series thrusts readers headlong into the complex and tumultuous world of ancient Rome. Though evil’s grip on power appears unshakable and the political landscape treacherous—a few courageous believers firmly establish a legacy of faith that will leave readers examining their own commitment to the things that matter most in life. Be warned—this one requires a box of tissues." (Kellie Coates Gilbert, Author of the Texas Gold novels)"Gentry weaves a flawless tale of adventure, seamlessly intertwining past and present to craft a story that will enthrall readers." (Kathleen Fuller, best-selling author of twenty-five books, including the Hearts of Middlefield Series)"Lynne Gentry is a powerhouse of riveting storytelling. Not only are her characters uniquely diverse and historically accurate, they are also painfully relevant. With beautiful imagery, non-stop action, and the kind of sensory detail that will leave you breathless, Valley of Decision is a brilliant finale to an incredibly addictive series. Five bright and shining stars for The Carthage Chronicles." (Nicole Deese, author of The Letting Go series and A Cliche Christmas)“. . . I couldn't imagine how she could end this series without disappointing me. With her fertile imagination, she was able to accomplish a satisfying ending. Her books will always go to the top of my to-be-read pile as soon as they come into my house. You really don't want to miss this one.” (Lena Nelson Dooley, multi-award-winning author of over 30 novels with two releases for 2015―8 Weddings and a Miracle & A Texas Christmas)"Valley of Decision is a dynamic conclusion to The Carthage Chronicles. Once again Gentry thrills readers with memorable characters and an action-packed plot deeply immersed into ancient Carthage. The romance is both heartwarming and intense and laced with rich historical complexities. Gentry aptly highlights the unbreakable bond between parent and child in this remarkable book—readers will be holding their breath until the very last page." (Elizabeth Byler Younts, author of Historical Amish The Promise of Sunrise series)

What an amazing adventure!I can’t believe it’s time to say goodbye to these special characters that I’ve come to know and love! The only consolation I have is that this fantastic series has a special place on my keeper shelf, and I can revisit third-century Carthage again and again.Valley of Decision is a sensational conclusion to the Carthage Chronicles! Once again, Lynne Gentry deftly weaves past and present together and brings to life the history, drama, and romance of this extraordinary story. Full of heart-wrenching emotion and poignant truths, this story of faith and family will leave you breathless!I absolutely loved the Carthage Chronicles and can’t wait to experience this incredible author’s next adventure!

Well, as the saying goes, "all good things must come to an end." And this is the case with Lynne Gentry's Carthage Chronicles trilogy. The storyline in books 1&2 were so exciting that it was hard to wait for the release of the third, and unfortunately last, book in this series. Lynne did not disappoint with picking back up with the story and carrying us deeper into the character's lives. I was so truly invested in the characters that I didn't want the book to end! Lynne's writing style is captivating and makes it so easy to imagine and feel what her characters are experiencing. I am truly sad that this trilogy has come to an end, but I just have to hope that Lynne will continue to excite us and spur us on to think deeply about things as she continues to publish other books!

This was a heartbreaking conclusion, but I don't see how it could have been any other way. Lynne Gentry captured my attention from the first chapter of the first book and held it all the way through the book study questions of the final book--I didn't want it to end so I read through every word :)! This trilogy was well-written, well planned, and well researched. Go ahead and buy the three books at the same time because you won't want to wait after you finish each book! The fictional characters were brought to life so well that they'll be in my thoughts for a long time! I can picture each character and setting as if I had photos to view.

Enjoy reading Christian fiction, no swearing, with good taste in romance.

I am now an emotional wreck! This story of true love and steadfast faith is one that will stay with me for a long time.

Love this book

This was such a good conclusion for the series! I loved every single book in it. In my opinion you should start with the first and read all of them in order.I loved how Maggie grew from the second book to this one. You really see her parents in her.

From the beginning of this series, I couldn't put it down. The characters were captivating and each book left me in suspense of what was to come. A glimpse into the reality of what history held along with the challenge of taking a stand fir Christ. May I share the love that was held between these characters and their faith in the One True God.

96 Words for Love

From School Library Journal

Gr 10 Up-After being accepted to UCLA, Raya starts to wonder if that is where her true passion lies. Right before her beloved Daadee passes away, she tells Raya that she has left something for her and her cousin Anandi at the Rishi Kanva ashram in the Himalayas she had stayed at in her youth. Raya decides that this is her opportunity to find herself and who she is meant to be, so the teen convinces her parents to allow her to live at the ashram with her cousin for a month. While solving her Daadee's mystery, she meets Kiran, a boy she desperately doesn't want to fall for on her journey to self-discovery, but does, and she meets a slew of other people who change her for the better. All of the characters in this story are well fleshed out with their own internal conflicts. Throughout, readers are also told the story Shakuntala and Dushyanta and how their love story parallels what both Raya and her Daadee have experienced. This is a readable, relatable story that touches upon social justice issues, such as sex trafficking, which at times feel like vehicles in place only to move the love story along. VERDICT A general purchase for libraries looking for romantic coming-of-age stories with depth.-Kristyn Dorfman, The Nightingale-Bamford School, New York Cityα(c) Copyright 2011. Good, easy, light hearted read...hoped for more

This is one of those rare books that I wanted to reread as soon as I finished it. I absolutely love Raya and her journey to find herself, which reminds me of when I was a teen facing the future. The story drew me in from the beginning and I was eager to read about Raya’s trip to the Ashram to follow in the footsteps of her grandmother. I also love the way her relationship with Kiran unfolded and grew. This book is funny, heartwarming, and also describes facing some serious issues that most people never encounter. This book is very well written and was the first of the James Patterson presents imprint that I have read. Needless to say, I’ll be diving into more of them after having read this one. I recommend this to young adult book lovers over the age of 14 or 15 due to some vague sexual content. Five stars for being a great read that deserves a re-read.Enjoy!

When you pick up a book and you see a blurb from Deepak Chopra on the front and one from Kim Kardashian West on the back, you really have no clue what you might get.I was a little afraid. What I got was a sweet read that had a touch of sadness and so many wonderful cultural bits. This is a modern retelling of an old legend - no worries if you're unfamiliar with the legend as the original is brought into the book very nicely. The book has a light touch, even when it deals with things like racism, addiction, and sex trafficking. It's a light read. In truth, I did wish it was a bit more specific when it came to the trafficking issue. It was kind of amorphous and I actually wasn't 100% sure what had happened to those girls until I read the afterword. Authors need to remember that YA readers can deal with hard issues without making everything sound more innocent. All in all, though, this was a nice read. I loved our main character (I remain uncertain about her love interest), and the friends she made. And it was extremely nice reading about modern Indian culture mixed with legend.

First and foremost, our Raya has some serious anxiety issues, which I think heighten her need to know what to do at all times. She's a thinker, a planner, a worrier. When Daadee, one of the most important people in her life, dies her world comes crashing down. Already, she was dreading the next year with UCLA- not that she minded the college or college in general.... just that this meant it was time to think about forever. What she studied here was what she would do for the rest of her life. I could kind of understand these things, being a worrier that needs to know how things are gonna go at all times (my coworkers work hard to be sure that I know what I am doing and who's with me every day, bless them. We even have a Money Center planner with schedules, helpful hints and things that need done... not the everyday, but when new paperwork comes through, procedures change or technology is being temperamental. It's embarrassing that this makes me feel more confident, but there we have it.).  But I digress.... my point: I get Raya. Her anxiety, her drive to do everything well, the voices in her head that won't shut up so she can meditate... same.   I also loved the other character- even Devin. I am pretty sure we have all met the well-meaning girl that never thinks about how what she says or does comes across to others. Is she a tiny bit racist? Yes, but in a really weird way. She loves the exotic, the beauty, of different cultures and doesn't get that constantly pointing them out or having "can I touch your hair" moments are off putting. Anandi and Pilot were fantastic characters- multifaceted and interesting. I also thought Pihu was a fantastic addition, she not only helped Raya find something she loved, but with her warmth, spirit and determination she showed Raya that it was okay to not be perfect right away.     Kiran was odd for me. There were moments that I loved him and moments where I would have happily strangled him. He started out here with an eye for beautiful things. As a film-maker he saw the world differently and that appealed to Raya. That said, anything that wasn't beautiful and perfect was quickly glossed over. Problems with the village school? Instead of going to help, he was going to have his parents donate money once he was finally "out of here" (the gorgeous ashram that a lot of others had paid a great amount of money to get into). He seemed spoiled, juvenile at times. But then there were moments of kindness, like when he would find things to show Raya and how supportive he was of her. I do feel, though, that he and Raya definitely had the most character development and I appreciate that. I still don't know how I feel about their relationship. It's not the worst ever.... but I am not totally into it either.    The story line was really good, and the writing had a nice, even flow. It grabbed my attention pretty quickly, and I found it to be a fast and interesting read. I liked the bits of mythology and the addition of Daadee's things. There just seemed to be something missing for me. I can't explain it. I don't feel completely fulfilled with the story. ( I also want to know more about Pilot and Anandi- if they were to get their own stories I would totally read that.) For me, this was a three star book with one for creativity. It was really good, and I do recommend it, but it left me feeling a bit unfulfilled.     On the adult content scale, there's language and some sexual content. It is geared toward teens, and isn't too explicit though. I would give it a four. Â

I'm not a big reviewer. I find writing a challenge, even if it's a positive experience, as it is now. I started learning Java a few months ago and bought a number of books on the topics I needed to really create a java website.I stumbled on this book as one of the ten or so I purchased.I haven't touched the other's since. This book has it all, written so clearly that you know the author is very familiar with her subject and understands it thouroughly. It was written in 2003 and discusses Tomcat server as release 4.0 but that does not matter one bit. I was truly able to use this book to put together a website. Servlet, jsp, even java script is covered. I found many questions I had assembled reading the other books being answered in this one.Murach's books should be proud of this and I notice that they don't publish a 100 books on a subject; just have a few. I'll bet they're just as good.

A good book. Not for someone looking for a "tutorial" or "introduction" on the subjects covered. However, a good reference book to find examples of specific programming problems for someone who already has a good understanding of servlets and JSP. Covers a good number of different aspects of servlet/JSP programming. I also found it a good book to convey some general knowledge in areas like using attributes, DB access, etc. I enjoyed selectively reading different chapters.

This book is exactly what it claims to be: a general reference to hundreds of "everyday" situations Java Web developers face. Just as any cookbook, it doesn't go into the "deepest" details about every little thing, and it does give examples of ways to not reinvent the wheel. Some reviewers see this as worthy of only 1 star... This is only a 1 star book for readers who like to reinvent the wheel and waste time on unnecessary details... if you're like me and have deadlines to meet, you'll find what you need here quickly and efficiently.

Target AudienceWeb developers who are looking for real-life examples of the use of servlets and JSP.ContentsThis is a companion-type book that goes beyond strictly reference material to the use of different servlet and JSP features, along with working examples of code to illustrate the concepts. The book is divided multiple chapters that each cover a different technique or function:Writing Servlets and JSPs; Deploying Servlets and JSPs; Naming Your Servlets; Using Apache Ant; Altering the Format of JSPs; Dynamically Including Content In Servlets and JSPs; Handling Web Form Data in Servlets and JSPs; Uploading Files; Handling Exceptions in Web Applications; Reading And Setting Cookies; Session Tracking; Integrating JavaScript with Servlets And JSPs; Sending Non-HTML Content; Logging Messages from Servlets and JSPs; Authenticating Clients; Binding, Accessing, and Removing Attributes in Web Applications; Embedding Multimedia in JSPs; Working With The Client Request; Filtering Request and Responses; Managing Email In Servlets and JSPs; Accessing Databases; Using Custom Tag Libraries; Using The JSTL; Internationalization; Using JNDI and Enterprise JavaBeans; Harvesting Web Information; Using the Google and Amazon Web APIsReviewI really like the O'Reilly Cookbook series. I read a lot as part of my ongoing study, and often it's easy to understand conceptually what is going on. But making the jump to practical solutions can be difficult at times. The Cookbook series gets plenty of use on my bookshelf as I do my day to day coding. And when it comes to servlet and JSP coding as I continue to learn more about Websphere Application Server, this book will surely become dog-eared like the rest of them. Bruce Perry has done a great job.As with most Cookbook titles, each chapter in the Servlet And JSP Cookbook is made up of a number of Problem/Solution/Discussion groupings. This format proposes a coding problem, states the solution to solve it, and then devotes the necessary space to discuss the solution both with text and code. By using this format, you can think through a working solution and determine how to apply that technique to your own problem. Perry covers a wide range of problems that will help both the beginner and the experienced coder. For beginners, the solutions for setting cookies with servlets and JSPs may be just what you need to get started. Experienced people will find the internationalization and JNDI/Enterprise JavaBeans solutions useful. I appreciate the fact that coders of all experience levels can get something out of this book. The only caveat I have on this book is that it is very focused on the Tomcat and WebLogic web application servers. If that's your platform of choice, you're going to get everything this book has to offer. For me, I'm partial to the WebSphere platform. While I will benefit from a lot of this book, there are chapters that will have no appeal to me, such as using the Ant package. I will also need to pay attention to the coding examples to make sure that the techniques are coded correctly for my platform of choice. Even with that warning, I would still highly recommend this book to all coders working in this area.ConclusionThis is definitely a title that will be useful to you as you learn more about servlet and JSP programming. It will give you the ideas you need to solve real business problems you'll encounter as a developer.

As some other reviewer pointed out (read his reveiw for details), the examples are based on Oreilly's Library, the realy nitty-gritty stuff is completely skipped. I think author is cuckoo, to beleive he expects most of his readers to pay for this joke of a book. I paid four dollars and fifty cents for it (second hand) .... about right price.
