I recently purchased two North Korean photo books, "Inside North Korea" (which is this one) and "North Korea" (North Korea). Both books are excellent but the two are actually quite different.This book is the more comprehensive of the two books. While the other book ("North Korea") stays primarily within Pyongyang, this book covers various regions of the country. This book also has more detailed photo captions, including English translations for many of the propaganda posters that can be found everywhere.This book is comparatively more verbose than "North Korea." The Foreword is by Bruce Cumings, and each chapter also begins with an introduction of usually a couple of pages. Some people may find this useful; I usually just go straight to the photos.There are many photos of the yearly Arirang Festival presented here. It looks like they're trying to portray the panels flipping from one side to the other, which creates a larger, composite image of the Great Leader. About half of the Arirang photos may seem redundant (unless you've never seen video footage of this before).If you want to learn more about the country and could only buy one photo book, this is the one I would buy. If you're looking for a more esthetically pleasing coffee table book, then I would recommend "North Korea" (North Korea), but keep in mind that book stays predominately within Pyongyang.

When I purchased this book, I envisioned a narrative of life in North Korea, however, I quickly discovered this book WAS NOT what I had expected. Pleasantly surprised, I opened the book to see dozens of high-resolution photographs of North Korean cultural sites, monuments, Pyongyang, the DMZ, towns and farms, and Koreans. It shocked me to see these photographs, which were no-doubt screened before leaving the country, of a reclusive nation with a rich historical background.The book is large, full of photographs, and sparse on narrative. The photographer teamed with noted American author and Korean Historian Bruce Cumings for the forward.Photographs include: Mass Games, Pyongyang, The Monument to the Workers' Party, the Juche Tower, trolleys and subways, the Mansudae Grand Monument on Mansu Hill, the Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum, Arch of Triumph, the Reunification Arch, the DMZ, murals, soldiers in uniform, children, farmers, and small towns.

This gives one a quick overview and some cool pics of North Korea. Great way to get a basic understanding of what it's like in N. Korea

It's a nice book with lots of pretty pictures.

For the price, not good. Basic overview that jumps around... pretty generic and ridiculously expensive for how short it is. Nothing you couldn't get from a Google search

This book had a few interesting tidbits, but it was fairly short and made up of mostly pictures, it hardly had much detail and history. If you want the absolute minimum historical context of the DPRK and a bunch of pictures, then this book will suffice.

I have read quite a few books about North Korea, most with few or no pictures. It's nice to see pictures of the places I have read about.

The book came in excellent shape, I really enjoyed it and it was very informative.

I need this book for college and I would expect it would a good book maybe a few knicks or scratches but I would not expect a book held on by tape and missing half the front cover

The stories and short poems are really interesting. This book is older but I love it. It gives it a classic feeling. This is a great book to read.

This book goes to explain the various parts of literature and gives various examples along with many different types of readings.

This book is huge, but it has a lot of great readings and a lot of great questions to get your mind going. I would definitely recommend it to people interested in literature. I don't regret that I had to buy this book for class.

This was a really nice little book I found in the downtown Chicago Borders. It was in a section about Chicago. It's good because it showcases a side of Chicago most normally don't see. Specialty businesses, local shops and lodging all in unique locations and surroundings.Yes there are the few big sites to see, but for the most part this is about building structure and design in the off the beaten path of Chicago. It's nice to see the great Millennium Park in a publication.The descriptions are a great detail to these gems of Chicago. They describe what the business is, where they are located and what they have to offer. Not only that, but incredible photos that surprisingly pop off the pages of this little 5 inch square book. The rich color and detail of such unique places makes you feel like your right there in it.After discovering this book, I found that this publisher/author has more. It seems they did several cities around the world, just like this one. I will be looking into those as well.Nice coffee table reading.Great stocking stuffer for those into Chicago, architecture and shopping!

The175 page full-color book begins with an introduction that explains what "Kawaii" is. That is followed by a breakdown of the book that categorizes projects by skill level- very easy, easy, experienced beginner, and intermediate. Next is the section entitled "Getting Started". This section contains a wealth of information including types of fabrics, basic sewing tools, closures and notions, batting and fillings, basic hand and machine stitches and a list of important techniques and terms. Once you have all of that figured out you are ready to get started! I love pretty much all of the projects in this book but my favorites would have to be the character hats and arm warmers from the wearable accessories section followed by the fun ponchos and hoodies in the clothing section. Super cute and all tagged with a difficulty level of "easy". In the back of the book you will find 10 pages of patterns that can be copied to make the various projects. I found this book to be of outstanding quality with a wealth of clear and helpful information. For those who already know how to sew it contains some adorable projects that can be created quickly and easily as last minute gifts. For those who don't yet know how to sew it is a great place to start. I also highly recommend this book as a great gift for a teen wanting to learn to sew or a nice project for some together time with your favorite teen or tween. This book is super cute and has 22 projects with the patterns in the back to sew! I'm a crochet-er not a sewer but I couldn't pass up on the cuteness of this book and I like how the first chapters has a list of materials needed and tutorials with pictures and clear text talking out how to do certain techniques like attaching appliques and such. Each project has a description, a materials list, and the difficulty level along with pictures and a description of how to make it. I found a ton of projects I'm looking forward to trying to make! There are the cutest pillows and bags that I'm in love with! There is a pattern/description of how to make 3 different animal purses and I'd love to make them all! The patterns are for a bird, seal, and platypus purse. A PLATYPUS! There are patterns for purses, keychains, plushies, and even pages showing how to add the cutest extras ever on a hoodie! I really liked reading this book. I know you don't read books like this cover to cover most of the time but the writing was clear and there were some gorgeous pictures! I can't vouch for the quality of the patterns but I will definitely be trying some of them as soon as I have the time! This isn't the kind of book that you pick through and find 1 or 2 patterns and ideas that you'd like to try. There were actually only 1 or 2 projects I didn't particularly care for! I liked the pictures that went with the descriptions of making the projects or a particular skill. The pictures of the projects were to die for and I can't wait to try my hand at a fox hat, platypus purse, seal purse, jellyfish purse, bird purse (the purses were just so cute!), and make my own super cute animal type hoodie (I'm thinking a fox or maybe a raccoon.) I keep trying to show you a picture of the cute projects you can find in this great book but I am foiled at every turn! So the best I can do is show y'all a project I like but that I don't feel shows off the books ultimate cuteness! Below is the zombie kitty hat that there is a pattern for in the book. I took the image from the author's etsy page where you can buy it from her if you don't want to try the totally approachable projects in the book! If you want to see more of the projects then I would suggest going to the product's Amazon page and looking inside it- just wait until you get to the purses! and while you're over there, go ahead and pick yourself up a copy! I can almost guarantee you'll love it and find some great projects to squee! about and want to make! (see how I slipped in that "almost guarantee" bit? ha! clever me. no legal standing now mwahah!) But seriously, this was a super cute book and I'm so happy I was able to look through it and see so many great projects I can't wait to try! I would say this book is pretty amazing based on the projects extreme cuteness and clear writing that make a sewing noob like me feel like I could tackle the projects in this book! I was able to read and review this great sewing book for free but all the thoughts here are my own and I didn't receive anything to give them a positive review. These are my own thoughts! Choly Knight was also very kind enough to put a treasure trove of information in her book - from different types of fabrics and basic sewing tools to basic hand and machine stitches. It's is a crash course aka Sewing 101. As a bonus, you will find 10 pages of patterns that can be copied to make the various projects in the back of her book. All of the projects in the book seem interesting to make, I do want to make the Sushi Quilt though, but that requires a lot of patience and practice first. So, let's begin with the dumpling key chain, shall we? Helpful hint: You also get a bonus Japanese vocabulary lesson with each project that you make. How's that for added value?This book comes with 22 simple sewing projects. The step by step pictures will guide you through sewing techniques to create the most adorable, lovable little creations. The projects are aimed at kids or those young at heart and anyone who can pull off Kawaii bags whilst still looking like an adult. Lots of fun and a must have if you are into quirky little creations. This book would be ideal for anyone who wants to create their own plush toys too or check out Pet Pillows another title by Choly too.This book is full of adorable "kawaii" projects that I can't wait to make! I can hardly type this post because I'm overwhelmed by the all-out adorableness of the jellyfish purse in Sew Kawaii! I haven't tried any of the projects, but most look doable by a novice like me - only a few are marked as intermediate level. So I love the approachability of both books. Absolutely WONDERFUL! I love this book so much! It has tons of things for beginners and intermediate crafters. You'll never have nothing to sew or be blank on ideas for gifts with this handy book. You can makes plushies, purses, dresses, and even hoodies! There are pictures for every step so you never get lost ^u^ I'd definitely buy from this author again!

I saw this book at the fabric store before I bought it so I knew what was in it. Some of the craft projects are just goofy, like an octopus dress. There are a lot of pillows and plushies. But, there are also some really fun hoodie, hat, and purse projects that make it worth the purchase for me.

Very cute but some of the instructions are actually for someone with more experience sewing to know how to make a certain type of stitch needed. However, the designs look cute on the book; I just need to learn somewhere else how to make those stitches with my sewing machine.

I love the ideas in the book but the instructions are cryptic and you have to guess at what she wants you to do at times. I bought this book to do crafts with my seven year old granddaughter and I am an experienced crafter and sewer, and although we were able to make some nice things, I was continually frustrated by the poor instructions. I kept the book, but reluctantly and do not recommend it.

Bought this for my daughters birthday #12. She is thrilled, there are so many cute projects that she is excited to make. Highly recommend.

I had this book on hold at the library, but it was so popular that I was at the end of a lengthy list waiting to get it. Not wanting to be well into my dotage before I got a chance to read it, I broke down and bought a copy, and I'm thrilled that I did.Sew Kawaii is well thought out and colorfully presented, with lots of in-progress and finished project photos (which is extremely important in a how-to book.) The projects are simple and simply adorable. The instructions are complete and comprehensible.My one quibble is that the patterns included are part of the book itself, rather than on separate sheets or perforated pages. This means that there is a high risk of (if not an absolute need for) breaking the spine of the book in order to scan a faithful copy of the patterns. I love my books, and having to wreck one to get full use of it bothers me greatly.That said, it's a fun book full of projects suitable for beginners, yet enticing to pros.

Some people would be easily frustrated and just complain instead of doing something about it, where Matt tries harder.Sasha is awesome. I love that she puts Matt in his place. I like that she plays on the women’s soccer team and gives Matt a new appreciation for women’s sports.Ultimately, I think the challenge was perfect for them both. It gives Sasha time to mend her broken heart and Matt a new perspective on women.I appreciate Melissa Frost’s writing style. It is easy to follow and understand. Matt’s story was a fast read that I did not want to put down. I really enjoyed the narrative, and it was the perfect length.A gifted copy was provided by author/publisher for an honest review.

This was a cute read involving two young college students. Sasha was trying to teach Matt how to be friends with a girl and Matt wanted more from Sash. I loved the back and forth struggle from the two trying to fight what they both want but also trying to stay true to their promises! All in all a great story!

CHRISTOPHER BRYSON is an award-winning investigative reporter and a television producer. He covered Guatemalan Army human rights abuses from Central America in the late 1980's for the BBC World Service, National Public Radio and The Atlanta Constitution. He was part of the investigative team that won a George Polk Award and Sidney Hillman Prize with Jonathan Kwitny at Public Television's The Kwitny Report. Bryson's reporting for The Manchester Guardian, The Christian Science Monitor, Lingua Franca and the BBC has included investigations of David Duke's Nazi past, NASA's nuclear payloads, the Rev. Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church, and CIA links to Radio Free Europe. I never dreamed that one of the best books I would ever read would be about fluoride. It has been more than eye opening to what is truly going on in communities all over the US. I have heard for years that money talks, but after reading this book there is the realization that decency has become deafened by greed. I am saddened to be an American. What our government and industry is doing to the population is unconscionable, putting a toxic Co-product of the phosphate industry in our water supply so our bodies and environment are the filter for their waste product. The book is entertaining and informative and well worth your time. For me it has been a gateway to investigations of other crimes that have been perpetuated on us all in the name of profit. (Anyone that loves children please check out the movie "Vaxxed") Thankfully there are still some among us that seek truth and are willing to share it with others. Christopher Bryson should be commended for his 10 years of arduous work to bring this book to fruition. Hopefully water fluoridation will finally be recognized as dangerous, as was DDT, lead in our paint and gasoline, asbestos, cigarettes and having our feet x-rayed for fun. After all the same laboratories and institutions that so ardently promote water fluoridation assured us that all of these were completely safe. God bless us all in our efforts to rectify a practice that is hazardous to our health and our environment.

This book reads like a spy thriller, it is a very compelling book, with a lot of evidence showing how the real reason for water fluoridation has absolutely nothing to d with reducing dental cavities.

"The Fluoride Deception" is a scathing indictment of how the U.S. medical community, big corporations, and the federal government, misled the American public for decades about the dangers of fluoride. Filled with scientific studies and historical documents, all fully annotated, Bryson mounts a point by point attack on the flimsy, fallacious arguments of pro-fluoride advocates. He shows us the secret history of fluoride, how it was connected to the development of the atomic bomb, and the self-serving and sly actions of those corporations, mainly metal manufacturers, in deceiving the public into believing that fluoride was safe to add to our water supplies. Using public opinion techniques developed by spin doctors like Edward Bernays, these companies used every technique known in modern propaganda science to convince Americans and the world that fluoride was just another natural and harmless chemical, when the opposite was true and they knew it. In a race to develop atom bombs to counteract a perceived threat from its former ally, the Soviet Union, the United States broadened its nuclear development program through an unprecedented collusion between government and industry. In his farewell address to the nation in 1961, president Eisenhower warned that "we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the Military-Industrial Complex." This complicity is seen clearly in the history of fluoride and the public relations exercise carried out by government and industry that fooled America into thinking this deadly chemical was good for a our teeth. As it turns out, fluoride, and its industrial counterpart fluorine gas, described by some as a "violent monster," is one of the most toxic chemicals on the planet inducing skeletal fluorosis, arthritis, thyroid problems, bone cancer, and hyperactivity in animals. As Bryson explains, fluoride is a necessary ingredient in nuclear bomb production, as essential as uranium. Really an outstanding book. His writing is very clear, and it's obvious that he has done a tremendous amount of research (most of it from primary sources, which is always a good start). He does an excellent job of documenting the situation while slowly advancing the overall assertion of the book.It really stands out from the great majority of books written on this subject which, unfortunately, tend to devolve into pseudoscience, conspiracy theory, and so on. There was never a "tin foil hat" moment while reading this. His analysis is calm and fair, a true sample of scholarship and insight. Highly recommended.
